Arrest made in Molotov case
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Police arrested a Waynesboro man who has been wanted since April for setting a home on fire with a Molotov cocktail.

Johnathon Terell Hughes, 21, was arrested on seven warrants Saturday when an officer pulled him over for speeding.

Three of the charges stemmed from a fire at a West Seventh Street home that started when Hughes and his cousin, Joseph Bates, allegedly threw a gasoline bomb through a bedroom window and then shot into the residence as the homeowner and several guests attempted to put out the flames.

Bates is still wanted by police.

Hughes was also served with four warrants issued Sept. 30 after he allegedly exchanged gunfire with another Waynesboro man in the Huddle House parking lot.

Collectively, he is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, arson in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (two counts), criminal damage to property in the second degree and discharge of a firearm near a highway.
