You can run, but ...

A Waynesboro man was arrested Saturday after he hit a city councilman's van and then tried to hide.

According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department, Alex Roberts, 25, rammed into a parked van, belonging to city councilman Curtis Bell, as he was attempting to drive down West Eighth Street.

A passenger who was sitting in the van watched as Roberts parked his car in a nearby yard and ran.

Police arrested Roberts shortly thereafter when he went to Burke Medical Center with minor injuries sustained in the wreck.

Stranded

Deputies came to the aid of an Augusta woman after she was stranded by two locals with other things on their minds.

According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, officers helped transport the woman back to Richmond County after a concerned citizen reported she'd been left on Highway 25 in the early morning hours.

The woman told deputies she ended up in Hephzibah after leaving a Laney Walker night club with two Burke County men. When they crossed over the county line, she asked where they were going, to which one of them replied, "Put out or get out."

The woman was put out on the side of the road when she chose the latter.

Industrious thief

A Mills Road industry was hard hit when a burglar took a ride on a company forklift.

According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department the burglar stole two computers, then repeatedly drove the forklift in and out of the office, causing an enormous amount of damage.

Parts of the building were also flooded when the offender burst a water pipe.
