Argument between friends leads to stabbing
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

A Hephzibah man was stabbed Thursday night when an argument with a drinking buddy turned ugly.

According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, 65-year-old Fred James was rushed to the Medical College of Georgia after he was stabbed in the groin with a sharp object.

James told investigators that Johnny Lowe III, 44, stabbed him, then got in his vehicle and went home.

"It was not a life threatening injury," Sgt. Dedric Smith said, adding that James was released from the hospital that same night. "It just missed his femoral artery."

Sgt. Smith is in the process of obtaining a warrant for Lowe's arrest for aggravated assault.
