Barks and blessings

Beagles Cuian, Durin and Dain were all ears Saturday when they were blessed by Father Steve Rice. St. Michael's Episcopal Church hosted the annual Blessing of the Animals for the feast of St. Francis of Assisi - a custom conducted in remembrance of the Saint's love for all creatures. The band of beagles is pictured with their yard-mate Lori, a rescued Greyhound, and their owner, 6-year-old Ian Marchinton, third from left. Also awaiting a blessing was Ian's friend, Paul Billips, who brought along his stuffed rescue dog, Courage. Besides dozens of dogs, a cat and cockatiel were also part of this year's procession.
