Kennedy to speak at Riverkeeper benefit
From Staff Reports

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be in neighboring Jefferson County to help protect Georgia waterways.

On Oct. 20, he and other supporters of the Ogeechee- Canoochee Riverkeeper will gather "At Waters Edge," in historic Old Town Plantation, for a celebration of the rivers.

Kennedy, who serves as chair- man of the Waterkeeper Alliance, will be the keynote speaker, and Janisse Ray, author of "Ecology of a Cracker Childhood," will address the crowd during a candle-lit dinner.

"We have had an amazing response to this event," said Chandra Brown, Riverkeeper and Executive Director. "We just opened up individual ticket sales and have sold over half of the event seats. It's been a tremendously successful team effort already … our co-chairs, Thomas and Martha Black and Frank and Lillian Easterlin, and the steering committee have really done an excellent job of building enthusiasm for this benefit and our work to ensure clean water in our communities."

An auction at the event will feature an original piece of art from prominent Georgia artist Alan Campbell, vacation packages, jewelry and original pieces of art from local and regional artists.

Tickets are $250 per person and may be purchased online through Oct. 12, by visiting the site www.ogeecheecanoocheer iverkeeper.org/ atwatersedge.html or by calling the office at 912-764-2017.
