City hires building inspector
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Come Oct. 22, the City of Waynesboro will finally have a building inspector.

Lavern Martin, a 36-year-old builder, recently accepted the po- sition left vacant nearly five months ago when current Fire Chief Ronnie Baxley resigned.

According to city administrator Jerry Coalson, Martin worked construction in Minnesota for six years before returning, last year, to Burke County, where his family operates Pineland Bakery.

Since then, he's worked for JMar Builders.

Martin's full-time position will be three-fold, focusing on code enforcement, building inspection and project management. He'll also play a key role in the city's effort to eliminate unfit housing.

"He's built quite a few houses in this area," Coalson told council members Monday night. "He came very highly recommended."
