Firefighters can't locate a Burke County family who lost their home in a Friday morning blaze.

"Their camper's gone, so the assumption is that they've gone on vacation," EMA Chief Rusty Sanders said.

According to Sanders, Friday morning's fire completely destroyed the Farmers Bridge Road home of Eben C. Clarke Jr.

At first, neighbors believed a female family member was inside the burning home, but firefighters found no evidence of that.

Chief Sanders said the house appeared empty when firefighters arrived, and neighbors later realized the family's camper, which is normally parked outside, was no longer there.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and Chief Sanders has requested an investigation through the State Fire Marshal's Office.
