Cubs collect wins on gridiron
Burke County Middle School running back Montres Kitchens carries the ball as offensive tackle Malcom Aldridge clears the way in their 32-12 victory over Langston Chapel Middle School in Statesboro. BCMS's seventh- and eighth-grade football teams both recorded big wins on the gridiron this week. The seventh-graders (3-0) took down Richmond Hill Middle School 32-0 and chalked up 130 yards of offense in two quarters alone against Richmond Hill. BCMS Cubs Head Coach Billy Marchman named Brice Roundtree, who rushed for 80 yards, as his offensive player of the game, and he pointed to Carlton Holmes, who led the team in tackles, as his top defensive player. The eighth-grade team moved the football for 288 yards of total offense, with 243 yards rushing, against Langston Chapel. Coach Marchman tagged Montres Kitchens, who led the Cubs with 90 yards rushing and 10 yards receiving, and his offensive line as his offensive players of the game. He designated the defensive line and defensive end Paul Atwell as the defensive players of the game. Coach Marchman said Atwell "disrupted Langston's backfield all night." The seventh-grade Cubs vied for the region championship last night (Tuesday) against Screven County, but scores were not available at press time. The eighth-grade Cubs will play today (Wednesday) in Effingham County at 5 p.m.
