The Burke County High School softball team (3-10) recorded a win last week over Laney High School.
The Lady Bears beat the Lady Wildcats 16-12. The BCHS girls chalked up seven of their runs in the first inning alone.
On the mound, junior Mallorie Shaw retired 13 batters.
Coach Donald Wheeler applauded the team's progress at the plate and Shaw's pitching but said the team still needs to work harder on keeping their opponents from posting so many points.
"We need to play better defense, which we are capable of doing," he said. "Consistency is the key."
The Lady Bears will play at home Thursday against Hephzibah High School at 5 p.m.
