Lady Spartans suffer region losses on the diamond The Lady Spartans softball team, 5-8, 2-4, dropped a pair of region games last week. The first loss came on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the hands of Trinity Christian School, who defeated Edmund Burke 10-0 in the fourth inning. "Trinity's pitcher got to us," head coach Aaron Phillips said. "They hit the ball really well … and we got down really quick." Pitcher Allie Lewis managed a strikeout, and Ashley Bowman and Daryn Collins led offensively, both going 1-2. On Thursday, Sept. 20, the Bulloch Academy Lady Gators also shut EBA down in the fourth, 17-0. The Lady Spartans managed 1 hit against Bulloch's pitcher and had 10 errors on the day. The girls had better luck the previous week, with a 7-4 victory over David Emanuel Academy. Lewis produced 5 strikeouts, while Krislyn Lee was 3-4 at bat. Collins was 2-4 with 2 RBIs, and Kayla Milligan was 2-4 with 1 RBI. "We made some mistakes in the first two innings," Phillips commented, "but the girls rallied back, started playing better defense, and we came out with a win." Robert Toombs defeated the girls 13-6 on Monday, Sept. 17, as errors once again stood in their way. Lee served as leading hitter once more, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs. She also served up 1 strikeout from the mound, and Lewis was credited with 2. Due to forfeits from region foe Memorial Day School, the Lady Spartans have picked up two wins. They'll play again this Saturday, Sept. 29, against Lagrange Academy. On Oct. 1, the Lady Spartans meet up with Brentwood Academy at home at 4:30 p.m., and Oct. 2, will travel to Louisville for a 4 p.m. game against the Thomas Jefferson Lady Jags. |
