10 years ago: Sept. 17, 1997

Burke County Commissioners were considering an ordinance which would stop or delay construction of a 10,000 head hog farm in the county. Local citizens were requesting that a full environmental impact study be done before the farm was built.

The City of Keysville was recognized for its efforts to reduce illiteracy by the governor's office.

25 years ago: Sept. 15, 1982

The Burke County Commission voted to support the erection of a memorial to local residents who died in the Vietnam War. A total of 12 names were planned to be placed on the monument.

The True Citizen endorsed Lindsay Thomas in the primary runoff to name a Democratic nominee for the congressional seat vacated by Bo Ginn.

50 years ago: Sept. 19, 1957

Jack Rogers was scheduled to represent the Waynesboro Chapter of the Future Farmers of America in a tractor driving contest to be held in Swainsboro.

The WHS Hurricanes defeated Hephzibah 45-7 in the year's opening football game. Fullback Gary Glover carried the ball 18 times for 198 yards. Defensive leaders were Jack Cox and Lewis Tinley.

75 years ago: Sept. 16, 1932

Richard B. Russell Jr. won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senator over Charles R. Crisp.

The Waynesboro Rotary Club had the highest attendance percentage in the state for the month of August. The club boasted 95.29 percent average attendance with the only 100 percent meeting in the state.

The "Hotel Savannah" advertised nightly rates starting at $1.50.
