Burke Happenings SCV The Brigadier General John C. Carter Camp 207 Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold its regular monthly meeting at Mobley's Restaurant Monday, Sept. 24. The program will be presented by Phillip Weaver. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7. The public is invited. Diabetic teaching A free diabetic teaching course will be held 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at Burke Medical Center. Consortium meeting Enterprise Community Healthy Initiative will hold a consortium meeting 10 a.m.- noon Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Wimberly House. Speakers from local social service agencies such DFCS, Burke County Schools, Burke Community Partnership, Even Start, the health department and others will update the community on the services they provide for women and children. Cancer Society In an effort to make the com- munity more aware of the programs and services they offer, the American Cancer Society will hold an information session called "We Are Here" 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Burke County Library. Information on programs such as Road to Recovery, Look Good Feel Better, Dietician on Call and the Cancer Resource Network, as well as info about college scholarships, will be available. Also, the third annual Volunteer Summit will be held 5:30- 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Washington Heights Baptist Church, 1495 Washington Road, in Thomson. Snow is the son of Grand Ole Opry star and country music hall of fame member Hank Snow. He pioneered a ministry and radio program on WSM Radio Station and toured with Elvis Presley in their early years. The public is invited and there is no admission fee.
