Mrs. Ellen Hodges Fryhofer
Mrs. Ellen Hodges Fryhofer of Waynesboro passed peacefully to her Lord and Savior at Burke Medical Center on Sept. 8, 2007, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, with burial following in Burke Memorial Gardens, Highway 24 South, Waynesboro.
The Rev. Marshall Singletary and Dr. James Cason officiated.
She was the loving wife of Judge George W. Fryhofer. Mrs. Fryhofer was born on September 30, 1927, in Oconee, Ga. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hodges.
She graduated from Tennille High School and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in education from Georgia State College for Women, now known as Georgia College and State University, in Milledgeville. She taught high school home economics in Ellaville, Richland, and Augusta, Ga.
It was in Augusta that she met George W. Fryhofer, then a young lawyer with the Fulcher law firm. They married on April 2, 1955, and made their home in Waynesboro where she taught home cconomics at Waynesboro High School, until the birth of her children.
Mrs. Fryhofer was a devoted mother and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. She was a gifted pianist, who was equally capable of playing from sheet music or "by ear." For many years, she delighted worshippers by playing a piano prelude to the glory of God before the service began. She was a member of United Methodist Women and the Friendship Circle and also taught a ladies Bible study in her home. She was a Cub Scout leader as well. She was also a member of the Waynesboro Garden Club and an award-winning artisan of floral arranging, skills she lovingly passed on to her daughter-in-law. A consummate cook and homemaker, she relished in entertaining guests and treating her family to lavish holiday meals and homemade cakes, a skill she lovingly taught her daughter.
Above all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, studied the Word of God, and prayed without ceasing for her family and friends.
Mrs. Fryhofer is survived by her husband of 52 years, George W. Fryhofer; her son, George W. Fryhofer III, and daughterin law, Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, of Atlanta; daughter, Vera Lynn Fryhofer Dent, and son-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey J. Dent, of Augusta; grandchildren, Sandra Lynne Fryhofer, George Fryhofer IV, William Michael Dent and Virginia Ellen Dent; and sisters, Mable Sheppard and Lynda Lindsey, of Oconee.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Lucien E. Hodges and Billy Hodges, of Oconee.
The family received friends at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Waynesboro from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10.
