Ex-cop to stand trial for child molestation
By Ann Marie Kyzer Staff Writer

An ex-police officer who once served in Waynesboro and Sardis will stand trial for child molestation today (Wednesday).

Brandon Fairchild, 31, was arrested last June amid allegations that he molested an 8-yearold girl. The following month, he was charged with molesting the girl's 6-year-old brother, as well.

According to his arrest report, the crimes occurred over the course of about one year while he was involved in a relationship with their mother. When authorities apprehended Fairchild, he was attempting to leave the state with his girlfriend and the two children.

Fairchild is charged with four counts of child molestation and was denied bond because he was considered a flight risk.

He is being held at the Burke County Jail, where he has reportedly been kept separate from other inmates for his own protection.

A jury was selected for his trial Tuesday.
