Blood leads police to burglar
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Police followed a burglar's trail straight to the hospital.

Friday morning, Farm Bureau Insurance employees discovered that a laptop computer, two digital cameras and some cash had been stolen, according to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department.

After finding blood droplets on a broken window, investigators called Burke Medical Center and quickly learned that 38-year-old Jeffery Scott had been treated earlier that morning for a lacerated wrist.

He told doctors he'd cut himself on a large piece of glass, Investigator Bobbie Jockel said.

Investigators caught up with Scott and arrested him for burglary after recovering Farm Bureau's missing equipment.

Scott's girlfriend, 33-yearold Melissa Messer, was arrested for theft by receiving stolen property when some of the stolen property was found in her possession.
