There will be a Landscape Design for the Do-it-Yourself Homeowner on Sept. 13 & 14.
It will be held at the Georgia Experiment Station in the Stuckey Auditorium in Griffin. The
cost is $75
for both days and this includes registration, handouts, and refreshment. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 7.
This program is designed for the homeowner who would like information on how to design a new landscape or enhance an existing one. Design principles, plant and tree selection, use of color, as well as plant installation techniques will be covered in this two day workshop. Discussion will also include a look at landscape design computer software for the homeowners.
David Berle, certified landscape architect and Bob Westerfield, consumer horticulturist, both with the University of Georgia Horticulture Department will be the program coordinators and speakers.
The cost of the two day program includes all breaks and materials. You can register by calling the Continuing Education Department at 770-229- 3477.
2007 Ornamental
Horticulture Open House
The faculty and staff of the Department of Horticulture at the University of Georgia cordially invite you to attend the biennial Ornamental Horticulture Open House at the UGA Horticulture Farm in Watkinsville on Friday, Sept. 28. Faculty from the Athens, Griffin and Tifton campuses will be on hand to discuss their research and ornamental plant evaluations.

The program topics include the following:
• Dr. Tim Smalley will discuss his work on documenting historic and horticultural significant trees of Georgia. He also will discuss efficient planting techniques.
• Dr. Mark Van Iersel will present his research on improving water use efficiency in greenhouse and nursery settings.
• Dr. Gary Wade will show you eight palm species he is evaluating for adaptability to Zone 7b.
• Dr. Mark Czarnota will discuss how to get the most from preemergent weed control in containers.
• Dr. Michael Dirr will take you on a tour of his woody plant evaluation program and his extensive field planting of many rare and unique plants.
• Dr. John Ruter will show several promising new plants from his Tifton trials.
