CHARLES WESTMAN Band Director Hometown: Acworth, Georgia Family: Daughters, Brittany, freshman music major at Georgia Southern University; and Courtney, sophomore at Burke County High School Flashback: Received his bachelor's degree from Georgia College, master's from Southern Methodist University and specialist degree from Argosy University and attended West Cobb High School where he was a member of the Warrior Band Teaching philosophy: With consistent hard work, good things happen. I believe that high but attainable standards are the cornerstone of student success. First instrument: Trombone- I was the principal trombonist in the U.S. Air Force band at Robins Air Force Base; principal trombonist in the Festival Orchestra in Rome, Italy; and performed with the Dallas Opera Orchestra Before Burke County: Band Director of Richmond Hill High School's Wildcat Band SUSAN JUKER Hometown: Augusta, Georgia Family: Husband, John Flashback: Attended the University of Georgia and played in the Red Coat Band; played in the marching band at Westside High School Teaching philosophy: As a music educator, my job is to provide every student who enters my classroom an opportunity to learn to love, understand and appreciate music. In my classroom at Burke County Middle School, this is provided through performance experiences. I believe through these experiences students gain significant, lasting understanding and insight about music, about the world around them and about themselves. JENNIFER PARKER Hometown: Fayetteville, Georgia Family: Husband, Derrick Flashback: Attended Augusta State University, played the French horn in the wind ensemble; attended Fayette County High School, played the French horn in the Tiger Band; while in the Army, Mrs. Parker played in the 434th Army Band at Fort Gordon, the 76th Army Band in Wiesbaden, Germany and the 101st Army Band at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Parents: Randy & Melissa Tapley STEPHANIE JORDAN Band Lieutenant Junior Instrument: Alto Saxophone, 5 years; Tenor Saxophone, 2 years; Baritone Saxophone, 3 years Pregame rituals: I pray and think about everything I do. Favorite thing about playing in band: The fun times in band, even if it's in extreme heat, making friends and yelling Parents: Mr. & Mrs. Willie A. Jordan MEGHAN SPENCER Band Lieutenant Senior Instrument: Tenor Saxophone, 4 years Other instruments: Alto Saxophone Pregame rituals: Take a shower, because you won't feel clean again until that hot uniform is off Favorite thing about playing in band: Jazz band ... That's when we get to play my kind of music. Parents: Melvin & Elmarie Habersham STEPHANIE COBB Drum Major Senior Instrument: Clarinet, 7 years Pregame rituals: We say the Lord's Prayer and circle up to warm up Favorite thing about playing in band: The adrenaline rush on Friday night Parents: James & Angela Cobb SEAN KIRKLAND Mellophones Section Leader Junior Instrument: French Horn/Mellophone, 5 years Other instruments: Trumpet Favorite thing about playing in band: The feeling I get when I accomplish something new or play so loud and powerful that even the louder instruments have no choice but to hear me. I mean, I'm a one man section. It's one big team and it's nice to be a part of it. Favorite thing about playing in band: I like the games. They're my favorite. Favorite thing about playing in band: I really like concert session, because you learn how to play music stylistically. Marching season is fun when you are playing at half-time.
