Scrimmage changed to Thursday
Regular season play begins Aug. 31 in Jefferson County
By Anne Marie Kyzer Staff Writer

Burke County fans will get to see their boys in action one night earlier than expected.

The scrimmage against Warren County has been moved to Thursday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Friday.

The Bears' first regular season game pits them against Jefferson County High School. They'll face off in the Warriors' territory in Jefferson County Friday, Aug. 31, at 7:30 p.m.

Many of the players single this game out as the match-up of the season, calling Jefferson County their main rival.

Despite gaining an early lead when they played Jefferson County in the Bear Den last year, Burke County ended up falling to the Warriors 20-10.

The game hurt more than their pride. A knee injury late in the game took out their starting quarterback, Michael Simpson.

In their 2004 bid to make the state playoffs, the Bears lost a heartbreaker to the Warriors in double overtime, 16-13

Now, the Bears say they want to claim a win, and they're ready for a rematch with their neighbor to the west.
