Burke County was represented by four 4-H'ers at State 4-H Council held June 22-24 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton.
Local delegates to the annual meeting were April McDaniel, Aimee Dixon, Brendan McManus and Devan Dixon. They joined more than 900 other 4-H'ers and leaders representing almost every county in the state. The theme of the meeting was "Epic 4-H… Be the Hero! "
This year's workshops explored life in the military and how we develop messages to teach others about issues that matter to us. Lieutenant General David Poytress, The Adjutant General of Georgia was the keynote speaker for the weekend. In addition, the 4-H'ers heard an address by his wife, Mrs. David Poytress. One of the most impressive events on the program was the citizenship cer- emony for new voters. The ceremony honored delegates who have reached 18 years of age and are eligible to vote in all elections.
The 4-H'ers spent three days attending educational programs, participating in a citizenship ceremony, studying ideas and issues, attending dances, electing State 4-H officers and exchanging ideas with new friends. Cindy Cope, 4-H program assistant, accompanied the 4-H'ers to the event.
