Mrs. Ernestean Winningham Parsons

Ernestean Winningham Parsons (Mrs. Milton L.) passed away on Aug. 18, 2007 at her home in Durango, Colo., where she moved from West Point, Georgia in 2002 to be near her family.

Services will be held in West Point with visitation at McCarthy's Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 23 from 7-9 pm. The funeral will be held at Flat Shoals Baptist Church Friday Aug. 24 at 11 am.

She was born in Lanett, Alabama on April 30, 1921 to Maude and Ernest Winningham.

Mrs. Parsons married Milton L. (Mutt) Parsons on December 17, 1938 in Phoenix City, Alabama.

The Parsons lived in West Point, Ga., Tullahoma, Tenn., Augusta and Waynesboro, Ga., and finally back to West Point where Mr. Parsons passed away in 1994.

Ernestean was a cosmetologist and proprietor of Parson's Beauty Salon in Waynesboro.

She was very involved in garden clubs, a past president and was awarded numerous times for her arrangements.

Mrs. Parsons became the first woman to run for public office in Waynesboro when she ran for city council.

Ernestean enjoyed motorcycling, reading, crocheting, card games, camping, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Debby Scott (Jimmy) of Durango, Colo., and Susan Carter (Richie) of East Dublin, Ga.; two sons, Edward Parsons (Shirley) of Harlem, Ga., and Gary Parsons (Shelley) of Craig, Colo.; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren

Mrs. Parsons was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson.
