RFD
By Bonnie K. Taylor General Manager The True Citizen

I had the pleasure of attending the open house for Robertson's Heritage Chapel Sunday. The facility is exquisite.

I have had the opportunity to see many funeral homes over the years and I don't believe I have ever seen one as elegant as Robertson's.

According to Randy Robertson, owner, it is still a work in progress. The Heritage House Flower and Gift Shop located at the rear of the property is under construction.

Owners, Randy and Jane Robertson, have made a huge investment in Waynesboro and Burke County. They hope to draw business from a 50-mile plus area.

Congratulations and thank you for choosing Waynesboro for your business!

I want to extend belated birthday wishes to Mrs. Emily Cox who turned 95 on Aug. 4.

Mrs. Cox is a special person. Special enough to have the flag flown in her honor at the nation's capitol, thanks to U.S. Senator Johnny Isaackson.

My condolences are extended to the family of Jimm "Superstar" Jenkins. Jimmy died Aug. 10.

Always a gentleman, Jimmy never got in a hurry to do anything. People like him always seem to be at peace with themselves.

He will be sadly missed by his family, wife, Carolyn Morgan Jenkins; son, "Kip" Jenkins; daughters, Cathy Allen, JaLaine Coleman and Stacy Whitehurst; brothers, Johnny Jenkins, Gene Jenkins Sr., Jerry Jenkins; sister, Cathy McAffee; and like a brother, Greg Coursey.

Congratulations to my neighbor, Austin Daniel, for his big catch!

Austin caught a 31 pound, 40-inch striper bass last Wednesday at Clarks Hill. He is an active member of the National Striped Bass Association and recently competed in the 2007 season where he won "Youth Angler of the Year."'

He will compete in the national finals on Lake Cherokee in Tennessee in November.

Ricky Greiner is recuperating from a fall from a ladder on Aug. 5.

His injuries were so serious that his right leg had to be amputated six inches below his knee. He also broke his knee on his left leg.

Ricky works for the Burke County Magistrate's Office and monitors illegal dumping, a huge problem for Burke County as well as addressing for the codes enforcement office.

He was supposed to go home from Doctors Hospital yesterday. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

Paul and Crystal Donaldson spent a couple of days at Daytona Beach, Fla. While there they purchased a box of Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats.

While eating cereal, Crystal said she was reading the back of the box and lo and behold she recognized the face on it ... Joe Shepherd of Waynesboro.

He was featured for the Reader's Digest Word Power Challenge.

She said she also purchased the cereal at a Wal-Mart in Evans and found a box with Joe's picture on it there.

So maybe ... just maybe, the cereal boxes are headed to Joe's hometown so we all can see it.

Congratulations, Joe!

Between you and Jonathan Broxton who plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers, you will make Waynesboro and Burke County famous for being your hometowns!
