Grillers get ready for Farm Fest's Racks by the Tracks
Sept. 15
By Diana Royal Staff Writer
Participants in the first ever Racks by the Tracks Rib Cook-off will heat up their grills on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The Waynesboro Shrine Club and Southern Bank decided to sponsor the event, which is held in conjunction with the Shriners' annual Farm Fest, after the Boss Hog competition was moved to April for sanctioning reasons.
The contest is open to amateur grillers only; anyone associ- ated with a profes- sional or commercial food service business is not eligible to participate, and grilling teams must have three official members.
The team producing the tastiest ribs will go home $600 richer, and second and third place teams will receive $300 and $200, respectively.
Teams will also compete to see who has the best Brunswick stew/hash, and whichever team's concoction makes the judges go hog wild will claim $300. An additional $300 will be awarded to the team with the best sauce.
Even those with decorating skills will be recognized for having the best cooking pit.
While $1,700 will be awarded in total prize money, 100 percent of the cook-off proceeds will benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
