Officers search for skeletal remains

Officers began a morbid mission this morning.

They're searching for the skeletal remains of a 1990s murder victim.

Although the victim's name has not been released, the murder dates back to 1998, according to Gary Nicholson, special agent in charge of the Thomson GBI office.

He said the killer was convicted in Richmond County, but the body was never recovered. Recently, investigators received information that the body was buried in northern Burke County.

Richmond County investigators were not ready to comment, but confirmed they will be in Burke County.
