From the Blotter

Loaded

Deputies are trying to figure out why a loaded down Cutlass was abandoned on River Road.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday an anonymous caller reported a white Cutlass was pushing a Gold Buick down the roadway.

When deputies arrived, the drivers were gone but their stash wasn't. In the Cutlass, quite a few electronics were stacked up, including a car stereo, a face plate from a second stereo and a speaker box. Under the driver's seat was a large quantity of "poor quality" gold jewelry and a rubber Halloween mask. Someone had also tampered with the steering column.

The Buick also contained a loose stereo as well as credit card information on the possible owner.

Authorities in Richmond, Jenkins and Bulloch counties were notified of the strange find.

Struck twice

A Sardis couple is down on their luck. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, they moved out of their mobile home Aug. 8 when it was struck by lightning and caught on fire.

They called deputies Friday when they went to check on it and realized it had been burglarized.

According to the report, a window was broken out and jewelry, clothes and two jars of change were stolen.

Watch the birdie

Deputies were waiting for a woman driving a white SUV. She'd called the dispatcher and reported that an unknown driver ran her off Highway 56.

She'd agreed to meet officers at T&J Country Store, but never showed.

Someone else did, though.

A Waynesboro man told officers he was attempting to pass a white SUV when he unintentionally forced the female driver onto the shoulder of the road. He said the woman began screaming at him and threatening to call police.

According to the report, when the man tried to drive away, the woman starting "flipping him off" and following him.
