Homemade Ice Cream Contest and Home Grown Bake-Off
By Terri Black County Extension Agent

Is churning ice cream your passion? Do you think your Grandma's peanut butter bars are the best in Burke County? If so, plan to enter two great contests sponsored by the Burke County Extension Office at the 2007 Farm Fest on September 15. These contests are not just for fun or even for bragging rights - they benefit the Shriners! Pre-registration is required for both contests and prizes will be awarded to the top three products in each category.

Homemade Ice Cream

Contest

There is a $10 entry fee for this contest. Contestants may choose to churn off-site and bring in their ice cream or churn on-site at the Farm Fest. Recipes may NOT contain raw eggs. Ice cream will be judged on taste, consistency, smoothness, and safe food handling practices.

Home Grown Bake-Off There is a $5 entry fee for this contest. Dish must contain a substantial amount of at least one Burke County agricultural commodity. Examples include, but are not limited to, peanuts, strawberries, milk, and peaches.

If you would rather just eat ice cream and baked goods instead of preparing them yourself, these contests are made for you! Once judging is complete, products will be sold and all proceeds will be donated to Shriners Hospitals. Judging will begin at noon, so be sure to come early and grab some delicious homemade products!

If you just can't wait to participate, please contact Terri Black at 706-554-2119 or stop by the extension office in the Burke County Office Park for complete information on both contests as soon as possible.
