Miss Black Burke County to be crowned

The Divas of Excellence will be presented during the 29th annual Miss Black Burke County Pageant 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, in the J.D. Smith Auditorium at Burke County High School. The scholarship fundraiser is sponsored by the Burke County Black Coalition, and this year's theme is "Glamorous." The reigning queen, Veronica Henderson will crown this year's winner.
The Divas of Excellence were selected to participate this year because of their high moral character, leadership potential, community involvement and positive outlook on life and have been involved in character education workshops conducted by Burke County community, civic and religious leaders including Daphney Ivery, principal; Ernita J. Terry, doctoral candidate; Dr. Elvira Jackson, media specialist; Jackie Payton, educator; Kerry Mack, make-up artist/skin care consultant; Jessica Harr, activities director; Teresa L. Carter, community manager; Ethel R. Roberts, chorus teacher; Pat Roberts, senior counselor; June Powell, language arts teacher; Katina Williams, social worker; and LaSonya GrifKimber fin, health educator.
