Genealogical society

The Burke County Genealogical Society will meet 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at the Burke County Library.

The speaker will be Peggy G. Hargis, professor of sociology at Georgia Southern University. She will speak about recollections of redemption: race, memory and the Civil War.

Old Fella

Burke County Old Fella Rescue Mission will meet 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Burke County Library.

Sarah Hart

A reception for Sarah Hart, "The Jewel of Jones Avenue," will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, beginning at 5 p.m., at Coradell's Wedding Chapel on Academy Avenue.

The public is invited to be a part of the inaugural Sarah Hart Scholarship Fund, and those in attendance will receive a copy of "The Jewel of Jones Avenue," written by Donald "Duck" Mitchell.

Faith Christian Open house for Faith Christian Academy will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the old Burkehaven site located at 498 Park Drive.

The office will open Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon, and will also be open Thursday and Friday, Aug. 9 and 10, during those hours.

Enterprise Community Healthy Start will offer free childbirth classes 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 15-16 and 22-23.
