Faith Christian Academy
Students to remain at Burkehaven
By Diana Royal Staff Writer

School officials, parents and staff of the newly developed Faith Christian Academy know one thing for sure - they've accomplished their goal of establishing a new private Christian school in Burke County.

The school's location, however, will not be in the old Kimberly Clark office building on Woodland Road as was planned.

"The renovations that were needed were beyond the value of the building itself," Joe Woods, who serves as the chairman of the school board, said, adding that two architects came to the same conclusion, with the last one estimating a $300,000 cost. "We did not feel that this would be a wise use of God's money and hope to raise funds and build a brand new facility at about a third of the cost."

For the time being, Faith Christian Academy will operate in the old school facility at Burkehaven Chapel. According to teachers and board members, Burkehaven has been a blessing, offering assistance since the idea of a new school first came about.

"We want to assure our community that we have not retreated from our initial conviction that God wants to retain a Christian school to stand in the wake of Burkehaven," Woods said. "We hope to live up to the benchmark that they have placed before us. Few people can imagine how difficult it is to start a private Christian school … (but) we're here to stay."

Faith Christian Academy will open its doors as a school for the first time on Aug. 13, offering classes from pre-K through eighth grade.
