The Rev. Lawrence Atwell Lemons The Rev. Lawrence Atwell Lemons, age 84, of Waynesboro, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Burke Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro with the Rev. Marshall K. Singletary, Dr. James A. Cason and the Rev. Kirk Bozeman officiating. The family received friends following the service in the social hall of the church. Burial was Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Homeward Cemetery near Waverly, GA., with the Rev. Jim Rush and the Rev. William Warnock officiating. Pallbearers were Bobby Bolton, Preston Lewis, Dr. Harvey Sanders, Manton Horton, Joe Daniel, Tommy Quick, Tommy Mitchell and Brigham Scott. Honorary pallbearers were United Methodist Ministers and their spouses. Rev. Lemons was born in Kentucky and the son of the late Lawrence Lemons and the late Iva Frances Dunn Lemons. He was a retired United Methodist Minister having been a member of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church for 60 years. Rev. Lemons served numerous appointments in the South Georgia Conference beginning in Sardis and retiring in Woodbine. He also served as conference statistician and supplied various pulpits in his retirement. He loved church history and music, books on Theology and had a hobby with electric trains. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Dale Butler Lemons. Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth Burgess Lemons of Waynesboro; a daughter, Pam L. Rogers (James) of Brunswick and grandchildren Brandi Rogers and Brandon Rogers. Donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA. 31203. May and Smith Funeral Directors of Sandersville was in charge of these arrangements. |
