Mr. Charles Childers, Sr.

Charles Childers, Sr., 72, of Hephzibah entered into rest Monday, July 30, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home, Hephzibah, with the Rev. Bob Matthews and the Rev. Joe Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, with military honors.

He was born in Griffin, Ga., on May 27, 1935 to the late Charlie Jewel Childers and Mary Lou Daniel Childers.

He has lived in this area for over 60 years and retired from Bush Field Airport after 32 years as a Facility Maintenance Supervisor. After retirement, he served as Course Marshall at Applewood Golf Course. Mr. Childers enjoyed camping and traveling. Over the last few years, Mr. Childers served as a Camp Host for Georgia State Parks. He was a long-time member of Hephzibah Southern Methodist Church where he served as choir director. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn Childers; daughter, Tommie Young (Steve) of Bradford, Pa., and their three children, Travis Caldwell Neely, Stephanie Marie Young and Rebekah Lynn Young; a daughter, Robin Jeselnik (Joe) of Waynesboro, and their children, Rachael Black Robinson (Elliott), and Billie Kaye Black; a son, Charles Thomas "Buddy" Childers Jr. (Lisa) of Augusta; a son, David Lee Childers of Eatonton, Ga., and his children, Landon Walker Childers and Madison Elizabeth Childers; a sister, Ann Childers Rauton (El) of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Larry Lee Childers (Nita) of Mauldin, S.C.; a sister, Jane Childers Neal (Tommy) of Augusta; a sister, Sue Childers Nussman (Bud) of Cottageville, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 2, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Keith Neal, David Douglas, Elliott Robinson, Woody Davis, Chuck Baer, and Shawn Newsome.

Floral arrangements are being accepted, but remembrances may be made to The Gideons International, P. O. Box 1390, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
