Mrs. Maggie Smith Heidt Maggie Smith Heidt of Augusta departed this life on July 24, 2007 after a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday July 28 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. Graveside services were held Saturday, July 28, at 3:45 p.m. at Bartow City Cemetery, Bartow, Ga. A memorial service was held at St. John's Tower in Augusta on Monday July 30 at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Mamie Hines Smith; her husband, Samuel Branch Heidt, and her brothers, Clancy, Martin, and Branson Roberts. Maggie was born March 10, 1919, and spent her childhood on the Victory Farm near Bartow. She then moved to Wadley and graduated from Wadley High School. Maggie was very active in Wadley United Methodist Church, and following her move to Waynesboro, in the First United Methodist Church there. She was also very active in the Pink Lady's Auxiliary at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. In her later years, she lived in St. John's Tower in Augusta, and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church at the time of her death. She felt blessed to have many good friends in Wadley, Waynesboro and Augusta. Maggie loved life, was committed to service, and was a positive influence in so many people's lives. Maggie is survived by her son, Samuel Branch Heidt and his wife, Joyce, of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; her son, James Harmon Heidt, and his wife, Janice of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Mary Heidt Wasiela and her husband, Jim, of Lanexa, Va.; her grandchildren, Jennifer Denise Heidt and James Harmon Heidt of Atlanta; Rachel Susanne Heidt and Sara Beth Heidt of Houston; and her great-grandchildren, Chloe Elizabeth Heidt and Cassandra Quinn Heidt of Atlanta.
