Local named VP of State Clerks Association
By Field Manley Intern

After nearly two decades of working for the court system, her peers have decided that she's got the know-how to be one of their leaders.

Cynthia Kelley has been elected vice president of the Magistrate Court Council, formerly known as the State Clerks Association. She has served as a clerk in Burke County for the past 17 years.

Clerks from across Georgia elected Kelley for the position, and she feels her coworkers have made the right decision.

"I didn't have a say in this, but I will do a good job," Kelley said. "And they know I will."

During her four-year term, Kelley's responsibilities will include preparing newsletters for the annual state seminar, making sure the other clerks are aware of any new laws and keeping minutes.

"I haven't missed a seminar in fifteen years, so I am familiar with what the vice president does," Kelley said.

Burke County Chief Magistrate Judge Curt St. Germaine has worked with Kelley since 2001 and is pleased with the job she has done thus far.

"I can't say enough about her," he said. "She does a superb job. I don't know how we would get by without her."
