Plans underway for Sept. 15 Farm Fest
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Farm Fest organizers are busy planning a day of good eating and family fun.

The Sept. 15 event, which is sponsored by the Waynesboro Shrine Club, will feature a parade, amateur grilling contest and lots of old-fashioned fun.

There will also be dozens of vendors selling everything from handcrafted pottery to homemade pies.

Farm Fest will begin at 9 a.m. at the Southern Bank complex on Liberty and Ninth streets.

Shriners say festival-goers can also look forward to a parade, inflatables for the kids and lots of nostalgic competitions like sack races and pie eating contests. According to event chairman Paul Bennett, there could even be a greased pig or frying pan throwing contest.

All day, rib aficionados will be competing in the first ever "Racks by the Tracks" cook-off, sponsored by the Shrine Club and Southern Bank. In addition to cash prizes, grilling teams will be vying for big bragging rights.

Proceeds from all Farm Fest events will help support the Shriner's Hospital which treats crippled and burned children at no charge to the families.
