Augusta woman dies in Saturday wreck
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

An Augusta woman was killed on Highway 25 early Saturday morning.

Sharlene Marie Hoover, 29, died just after 5:30 a.m. as she was attempting to exit the Waynesboro Bypass onto Highway 25 near Wal-Mart.

According to a spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol office in Sylvania, Hoover failed to yield at the intersection and skidded into the path of a southbound Hyundai Sante Fe, driven by David Charles Scott, 53, of Augusta.

Her Volkswagon Jetta was struck on the passenger side and knocked approximately 47 feet into a ditch.

Hoover was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Scott was not hurt, but both of his passengers, a 56-year-old woman and 10-year-old boy, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

State troopers who are investigating the wreck are still awaiting drug and alcohol screenings on both drivers, the spokesperson said, as is customary following any traffic fatality.
