Former resident jailed for molesting toddler
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

A Savannah man is behind bars for allegedly molesting a 3-year-old in Waynesboro.

Brandon Zanders, 23, was arrested at the Chatham County Jail last Tuesday on charges of aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy.

According to Sgt. Matt Raulerson, an investigator for the Burke County Sheriff's Office, the alleged incident occurred in April when Zanders was living on Eula Lane with his girlfriend and her two small children, one of whom is the victim.

Sgt. Raulerson and GBI agents began investigating Zanders after receiving a tip from Pooler police officers who have launched an investigation into sex crimes of the same nature.

According to an incident report filed here, the allegations were brought to surface by a Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) worker in Savannah.

She reportedly received information that Zanders forced the year-old to perform oral then 3-year-old to perform oral sex on him while her 7-year-old brother watched.

The alleged crimes took place in both Pooler and Waynesboro, the report said.

Chief Magistrate Curt St. Germaine said Zanders was denied bond and is awaiting a Superior Court bond hearing.
