Vandals damage community tennis courts
Vandals struck at Citizens Park in Waynesboro last week, causing several hundred dollars worth of damage to the tennis courts. According to Frances Johnson of the Burke County Recreation Department, staff members discovered late last week that a fence between the upper courts had been pulled down and believe the culprits did the damage Thursday night. Johnson added that courtside chairs donated by the Community Tennis Association have also been broken. While deputies have been patrolling the area to deter would-be delinquents, Johnson said she hopes citizens will help keep the courts in good condition. "We were so proud of the courts and were hoping vandalism wouldn't be a problem," she said.
