Cousins aspire to be golf pros
By Field Manley Intern

STAFF - FIELD MANLEY Carter, 10, and Daniel, 18, have a combined 19 years experience in the sport of golf. The cousins are pictured here on the putting green at the Waynesboro Country Club.
When most kids were ditching the training wheels and learning to ride a bike, these guys were learning to swing golf clubs.

Cousins Daniel and Carter Mobley both began playing golf as 5-year olds, and they love the game enough to want to make it their profession.

"When I was little I stayed around the Waynesboro Country Club," Carter said. "My dad taught me the game there."

With a combined 19 years of experience playing golf, the boys have approximately 40 firstplace finishes and have recently played in some respectable tournaments.

Daniel was invited to the Dogwood Invitational at Druid Hills in Atlanta. Though he didn't make the cut, he still sees the invitation as a highlight. "There were some really good players," Daniel said. "I was one of the youngest guys, so hopefully when I'm twenty or twenty-one I will be able to be a competitor."

Daniel will be attending Armstrong Atlantic State University on a golf scholarship this fall.

"I want to be the first freshman All-American for Armstrong because no one else has done that," he said.

Carter is currently playing in the Junior World Tournament in San Diego, Calif. He is one of 111 competitors in the 9- to 10- year-old division.

He credits his success to practicing often. "If you want to be good you have to practice a lot," Carter said. "I go to the golf course every day I can."
