Grand jury indicts 34, clears one Three suspected arsonists have been indicted by the grand jury. Brandon Atkinson and Tara Renee Norton, both of Blythe, and Anthony Carl Hobbs of Matthews were each indicted on July 12 for three counts of arson in the second degree. They were extradited from the Jefferson County Jail in May and arrested in connection to a string of suspicious fires in Burke County two months prior. According to EMA Fire Chief Rusty Sanders, investigators believe they are responsible for structure fires on Corley Road, Spring Hill Church Road and Highway 88 in Keysville. The trio also faces at least five arson charges each in Jefferson County. The grand jury indicted a Waynesboro teen for the 2006 rape of an 11-year-old. According to Waynesboro Police investigator Bobbie Jockel, Marquis Rollins, who was then 18, allegedly took the girl into a Waynesboro apartment and forced her to have sex in a back bedroom. He was indicted for rape, kidnapping, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. A convicted sex offender was indicted again, this time for child molestation. Gregory Darzell Parker was already on the sex offender registry for a 1998 conviction of criminal sexual misconduct involving a minor. A warrant was issued for his arrest in November after an 11- year-old told investigators she was molested in his Waynesboro home when she was nine. However, when officers attempted to serve the warrant, they learned Parker had moved without notifying them as required by law. He was arrested two months later when he was located at a Detroit prison. The grand jury indicted Parker for child molestation and failure to comply with the Georgia State Sexual Registry Law. The grand jury cleared a Waynesboro man of drug charges. Cedric Lamont Kent was arrested in April for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of cocaine. He was cleared of those charges when the grand jury returned a "no bill," which normally indicates a lack of evidence. The grand jury indicted the remaining 29 defendants on felony charges. They include: • Settron Bell: robbery; • Damien Chance: robbery; • Lavessa Rackins: armed robbery and aggravated battery; • Anthony Dewayne Phillips: trafficking in cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; • Keleon Dequan Burdette: burglary (two counts) and criminal attempt to commit burglary; • Mike Arthur Lambert Jr.: burglary (two counts), criminal attempt to commit burglary, driving without a license and obstruction of a law enforcement officer; • Daniell Marquell Baker: simple battery (Family Violence Act), aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the third degree, criminal trespass and criminal damage to property in the second degree; • Jamie Dayon Boyd: obstruction of a law enforcement officer (two counts) and criminal trespass; • Carlos Lamar Buxton: criminal damage to property in the second degree; • Samuel Adam Ellifritz: possession of cocaine; • Joshua Jerel Bates: criminal attempt to commit burglary; • Raynard Tamario Ellison: criminal attempt to commit burglary; • Jason Estep: theft by taking and criminal trespass; • Robert Donald Holden Jr.: theft by taking; • Joseph Adam Mooney: theft by taking; • Alisha Reece: theft by taking; • Shannon Russell Jackson: aggravated stalking; • Calvin Jones: theft by taking and forgery in the first degree (five counts); • Reverley Quick Kurtz: forgery in the first degree (two counts); • Lindsey Lawson Sr.: possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; • Samuel Lewis: criminal attempt to commit theft by deception and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; • Christopher Glenn Marsh: discharging a firearm near a road and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; • Patty Taylor Oglesby: financial transaction card theft and financial transaction card fraud (three counts); • Joshua Lee Phillips: aggravated battery; • Shaun Anthony Pierce: habitual impaired driving, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, no insurance, driving without headlights, operating a vehicle without current license plate and obstruction of a law enforcement officer; • Edward Persell Pugh: theft by taking; • Wade Hampton Skinner: possession of cocaine; • Elnora Walker: aggravated assault; and • Khari Lamar Wright: theft by receiving stolen property. |
