From the Blotter

Southern hospitality

A new Waynesboro resident was introduced to jailers after he decided to drink and drive last Friday.

Daniel Fabala Soto, 25, was pulled over around 11:30 p.m. when police officers noticed he was driving with no headlights.

Soto explained he'd arrived in the country just two weeks prior and only had a Mexican driver's license. When questioned about the strong odor of alcohol, he said he'd had five beers in the last hour.

After blowing .15 on the alco-sensor, Soto was arrested for DUI.

A story to cell

A Hephzibah woman cut the cord on harassing phone calls she'd been getting.

According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, a caller who identified herself as "Angela" called the woman's home three times, claiming to be a Richmond County investigator.

The caller said she was investigating a recent murder and had gotten her number from a stolen cell phone left at the murder scene.

Soon after, the woman tried to check up on the story, but found there were no investigators named Angela at the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

When "Angela" called back again and was confronted, she said she'd been calling to find out who stole her personal cell phone.

Lasting impression

A local teen called deputies after an alleged attack at her aunt's Waynesboro home.

The 18-year-old victim told police another girl approached her and began hitting her in the face, head and chest.

When asked what the motive might have been, the victim said it was to "impress some males" who were nearby.
