Kyle Petty's Ride heads toward Burke
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

This Thursday, 170 motorcycles will ride through Burke County on the 2007 Kyle Petty Charity Ride.

According to Chief Deputy James Hollingsworth of the Burke County Sheriff's Office, deputies will meet the motorcade at the Richmond County line at 9:15 a.m., July 19.

They'll travel along Highway 25, taking the bypass toward Jenkins County.

Deputies say spectators should stake out a spot early since all the intersections along the Waynesboro portion of the route will be blocked.

While bikers won't be stopping here, they'll be spending Wednesday night at the Augusta Marriott and making a pit stop at the Sam's Club in Pooler Thursday. Fans are welcome outside both locations.

The ride, which raises millions of dollars for youth charities, left from Bar Harbor, Maine on July 14, and will end the 2,500 mile trip in Hollywood, Fla., on July 20.
