Vandals damage local airport Vandalism continues at the Burke County airport as shown by two separate incidents last week. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, several lights along the runway were broken on Tuesday, July 10, causing more than $1,000 in damage. Just three days later, glass from broken beer bottles was discovered on the runway, a separate report said. An airport spokesperson said this isn't the first time someone has damaged property at the airport, and that in the past, when the lights have been damaged, a call had to be made to the flight service to alert pilots. The spokesperson also said that vandalizing the airport, which is government property, is a federal offense. |
