A new head coach will be calling the shots for the Bears on the baseball diamond.
Sean Tiernan has been approved by the Burke County Board of Education as the new coach for Burke County High School's baseball team.
Tiernan is coaching players in summer league now and looks forward to next year's regular season.
"We'll have a good turn out of returning players," he said. "We just hope to be a little more competitive in the region and make the playoffs."
Tiernan, who teaches health and physical education at the school, has served as an assistant coach under Todd Booker for the last two years. Tiernan worked mainly with the Bears' pitchers.
Tiernan joined the faculty at BCHS after graduating from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, where he played baseball for four years.
Booker, an assistant principal, resigned from his coaching duties last month citing a need to concentrate on administration and spend more time with his family.
