440 Years
The May meeting of the Burke County Board of Education honored 440 years of experience when retiring educators and Angeline Williams, BOE bookkeeper, were recognized. Williams is retiring with 28 plus years experience. Retiring from Blakeney Elementary School were James Martin with more than 19 years and Debra Rowell with more than 25 years. Waynesboro Primary's retiring educators were Marsha Hughes, Carol Mann, Joyce Murray and Lorraine Robinson with 27+, 35, 28 and 30 years, respectively. Donna Chance with 33 years, John Gibbs with 28 years, Deborah Ide with 30 years, Carol Keen with 30 years and Rosemary Umpleby with 29 years are leaving Burke County High School. Retiring from Burke County Middle School were Gail Dacus with 30 years and Cynthia Quick with 27 years. Pat Hozey is leaving the Burke County Alternative School with more than 41 years.
