Burke County Tax Commissioner Cynthia McManus said that delinquent tax notices, some dating as far back as 1967, had been mailed out. She added that if the recipients didn't pay up within 30 days their names would be published in the newspaper.

Bob Bolton retired after 30 years as a rural carrier for the Waynesboro Post Office.

25 years ago: June 23, 1982

The True Citizen was honored by the Georgia Press Association as the best midsized weekly newspaper in the state.

A collision between a school bus and a log truck claimed the life of 9-year-old Eric Braswell and injured several more children.

Southern Bell announced the appointment of Ted E. Lawrence as area manager.

Susan Ann Flanders and Joe Everett Daniel were married at the Midville United Methodist Church.

50 years ago: June 20, 1957

Captain Paul Stone, commander of the Waynesboro National Guard unit, was awarded the Distinctive Service Medal by Gov. Marvin Griffin. The medal was the highest military award given by the state.

Waynesboro Garment Company completed its new 75,000- square foot building and was seeking 150 new employees.

75 years ago: June 17, 1932

The first cotton bloom of 1932 was brought in by M. T. Reeves.

Prominent Augusta lawyer E. H. Callaway died at his residence. He had served as Mayor of Waynesboro and state senator in the 1890s.
