Mr. Acie McCullough Sr.

Acie McCullough Sr., 82, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the Wellstar Hospital in Austell, Ga.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 11 a.m., at the Waynesboro Deliverance Church, 752 Highway 25 South, in Waynesboro, Ga. His burial will be in Burial in Pines Cemetery.

Acie was born Sept. 17, 1924 in Waynesboro, Ga., to Clarence and Oletha McCullough.

He attended the Burke County Schools, and at the age of 70, returned to continue his education through the adult literacy program.

He was employed by Air Liquide (formerly Liquid Air & Nitrogen), where he retired after more than 30 years of service. A craftsman at heart, Acie continued to work following retirement as a Master Barber in the Waynesboro, GA community. He was a member of the Phillip Grove Baptist Church, once pastored by his father Clarence. Although active in church activities, Acie is most known for having served on the deacon board for four decades. In 1944, Acie wedded Mamie Lee Smith, and to this union were born 10 children.

In 1979, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years.

He is adored and survived by his children, Christine (John) Allen of Augusta, Ga., Acie (Betty) McCullough Jr., of Chicago Ill., Melvin McCullough, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Laverne (Purvis) Dukes Sr., of Waynesboro, Ga., Deloris McCullough of Brooklyn, N.Y., Gary McCullough of Waynesboro, Ga., and Harriet (Darryl) Locke, Gloria McCullough, Cassandra McCullough and Latonia McCullough, all of Atlanta, Roosevelt Walker of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Andrel Harden, of Waynesboro, Ga.; a sister Mattie Peoples of August, Ga. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Viewing will take place on Friday, June 22, at noon at Phinazee & Son Funeral Home, 404 West 8th Street, in Waynesboro, Ga.
