ATV accident sends 8-year-old to surgery

An 8-year-old Burke County boy was injured when the four-wheeler he was riding flipped Saturday evening.

The boy was riding the Honda FourTrax in a field near his Pecan Lane home when his grandmother found him and the ATV overturned, according to a report from the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

He was transported to the Medical College of Georgia for his injuries, including a broken leg, gas burns to his face and scratches on his arms.

According to reports from family, the child underwent surgery and was released from the hospital Monday evening.
