Man assaults deputy, then hitches a ride A Waynesboro man was jailed after punching a deputy who tried to detain him on a warrant. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, the deputy approached Linzey Butler, 41, when he saw him sitting on an air conditioner outside Girard Mall Wednesday. While being walked toward the patrol car, Butler struck the officer on the head several times before snatching away and fleeing, the report said. A short time later, store employees reported that Butler had returned and caught a ride on a tractor trailer heading toward McBean. Deputies pulled over the truck and found Butler in the passenger seat. He was arrested for obstructing or hindering a law enforcement officer and probation violation. He was served with a felony warrant for forgery in the first degree. |
