Man assaults deputy, then hitches a ride

      A Waynesboro man was jailed after punching a deputy who tried to detain him on a warrant. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, the deputy approached Linzey Butler, 41, when he saw him sitting on an air conditioner outside Girard Mall Wednesday.

ATV accident sends 8-year-old to surgery

      An 8-year-old Burke County boy was injured when the four-wheeler he was riding flipped Saturday evening. The boy was riding the Honda FourTrax in a field near his Pecan Lane home when his grandmother found him and the ATV overturned, according to a report from the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

      Deputies are asking for the public's help in locating a convicted sex offender. Last week, officers tried to pay a visit to Bruce Lamont Wesby's residence on Shell Bluff Spur Road but learned he hadn't lived there since mid-May.
