Fastest frogs in town
Slimy and Dan, some of the fastest frogs in Waynesboro, helped two local children earn some extra bucks after beating out all the other frogs in their group at the Burke County Library's eighth annual frog jumping contest last Friday. Amy Lively, left, of First National Bank, presented Allison Walker with $50 after Slimy crossed the finish line in 8.9 seconds in the 8- to 12-year-old group, while Corbin Faircloth picked up $50 when Dan finished the contest in 13.2 seconds for the 1- to 7-year-old age group. According to Elaine Sikes, library manager, 52 contestants entered and attendance totaled 247. This Friday, June 15, at 10:30 a.m., local firemen will be on hand at the library to teach children about fire safety and to show off their fire truck.
