Fines imposed for watering violations
By Anne Marie Kyzer Staff Writer

As citizens adjust to outdoor watering schedules required by the state, some cities are giving them an extra incentive to do so quickly.

The water schedules went into effect in April after the Georgia Environmental Protection Division declared a level two drought statewide.

Since then, cities have been determining the best way to enforce the restrictions locally.

Midville City Council voted last week to charge violators $250 the second time they are caught and cut their water off if they are caught a third time.

According to city administrator Jerry Coalson, Waynesboro officials are warning violators right now and will start issuing citations soon.

Coalson said violators will have to pay $250 here as well and added that subsequent violations could mean stiffer penalties.

Sardis City Council plans to discuss their enforcement plans at their meeting next Tuesday, according to city clerk Jennie Johnson.
